The Darkened Ruins of Old Guk is the Hardcore Heritage version of Lower Guk. It is a static zone that temporarily replaces Lower Guk on all standard servers, for a specific timeframe each year.
Like other Hardcore Heritage zones, it is usually a popular hunting ground while active, both for nostalgia reasons and for the powerful attuneable loot that drops within.
Level Range[]
Nearly all trash NPCs found here range from levels 73 to 79. Named go as high as level 83.
Loot[]
Items dropped in this zone include various attuneable equipment with required levels of 71, as well as tradable Glowing Athlai armor pieces that can be turned into Thach Jerden in PoK for req 71 visible equipment.
Trash can rarely drop the Glowing Athlai loot, but most of the other drops are restricted to specific Named.
Strategic Notes[]
Many of the NPCs in this zone patrol (and are social with one another). This, coupled with the tight quarters and short distances between spawns, make mez and snare especially helpful for keeping fights from getting out of hand.
The froglok ghouls are all considered undead, giving paladins and other anti-undead classes an edge in fighting through the zone.
The ghouls here are among the few undead creatures in EverQuest who flee when low on health.
All of the ghouls have a high chance to proc Darkened Ghoul Root on melee swings. Having a plan to deal with the frequent and hard-to-resist roots is helpful.
